With higher-education costs soaring in the U.S., college abroad in a program taught for English-language speakers is becoming a popular option. In this handy guide, adventurous students will find quick facts about 70 such college programs, in 28 countries around the globe. The UK, Canada, and Australia understandably have more options available, but institutions in Switzerland, Italy, South Africa, and Lebanon are also among the listed schools, which range from large, prestigious McGill in Montreal to Schiller in Switzerland, with a student body of 100. Entries for each school, organized alphabetically by country, include brief mention of campus location, academic and social life, admissions policies, and housing, with an “At a Glance” box giving figures (not always complete in the galley) for enrollment, tuition (which isn’t always a bargain), and faculty-student ratio.
